The Buller Group's Military Transitions is the leading resource for helping private sector companies develop recruiting strategies and programs focused on military veterans. We offer the full suite of human capital solutions focused on recruiting, managing and retaining veterans. With over one million disciplined and professional men and women transitioning out of the military, it is crucial that companies have a plan and resources in place.
Emily King, Vice President of Military Transitions, is a nationally recognized expert on the transition from military service to civilian employment. She has worked extensively with organizations that hire and want to retain veterans, as well as with veterans directly. Emily’s business-focused approach emphasizes the role of the civilian hiring organization in making veterans successful, and has directly contributed to the retention of veterans. Emily brings a unique ability to translate between cultures so that military personnel and civilians benefit from their association with one another.
Among Emily’s considerable achievements, she is the author of “Field Tested: Recruiting, Managing & Retaining Veterans” (AMACOM 2012), the first-ever guide for private sector organizations. In 2009, Emily wrote and produced the standout audio course entitled, “Your Military Transition™” aimed at preparing former military personnel for civilian employment. Emily developed the premier training course for civilian human resources professionals, entitled, “Essentials of Hiring & Retaining Veterans,” which received the seal of approval from the Human Resources Certification Institute (HRCI). The course also has the support of the Armed Forces Communication & Electronics Association (AFCEA), which hosts the program at its international headquarters. Emily’s course entitled, “Essentials of Coaching Veterans & Reservists” is designed for practitioners who need to gain insight and tools for making military and former military personnel successful outside of the military environment.
Prior to founding Military Transitions, Emily spent 10 high-impact years as an internal consultant and coach at the firm of Booz Allen Hamilton, leading People Strategy. It was here that Emily conceived and designed the very first military transition training program for civilian business professionals, nearly 12 years ago. The program still exists as the foundational piece of the firm’s veteran-employee initiatives.
Emily is frequently published in HR and training industry magazines and blogs, such as Diversity Executive, Training Magazine, and Training & Development Magazine (T&D). In 2010, the American Society of Training and Development (ASTD) published her guide to on-boarding veterans as a special edition InfoLine. Emily is highly sought out as a speaker on topics related to veterans in the civilian workplace, and in the last 6 months presented at the international conference and exposition of ASTD, the Society for Human Resource Management (SHRM) and the Multicultural Forum on Workplace Diversity. Emily has been featured in segments by CNN and appears regularly on WJLA’s “Capital Insider” program. Emily sits on the board of advisors for the G.I. Jobs Military Friendly Employers Top 100.
Emily completed her Master’s of Science degree in Organizational Development at Johns Hopkins University and received formal training and credentials in leadership coaching from Georgetown University. Emily’s pro bono community activities include working one-to-one with veterans, consultation to First Lady Michelle Obama’s Joining Forces campaign, participation on the DoL VETS Veteran Service Organization Stakeholder board and in USO Care Package events.
